August 14, 2011: Diabscreen Kerala Camp, Neeravil, Kollam
Free Diabetes Awareness Screening and Detection Camp was organized by P.Kesavadev Trust in conjunction with Nava Kerala at Neeravil, H.S.S Kollam. More than 80 patients attended camp and were screened for sugar, cholesterol and HbA1c along with anthropometric measurements. In his one hour lecture Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev detailed on the necessity for preventing diabetes related complications and his talk brought to light that majority in the gathering never knew importance of insulin injections and glucometers. Mr. Aneesh Kumar, Head, Projects & Future Developments,JDC gave detailed training on glucometer and injection techniques. 52% of the patients were found to have diabetes with very high A1cs. More than 40% were found to have high lipid levels and blood sugar levels. Dr. Jothydev spent time with patients and gave detailed medical advice. Gopikakrishnan of JDC research unit and Rebecca Vitale seen in pictures co ordinated the research on mass awareness on diabetes. Medicines were also distributed free of cost. RDO of Kollam, Mr. Salim inaugurated the camp. In his speech Mr.Salim highlighted the importance of early detection, treatment and avoidance of diabetes complications. Mr. R.Rajesh Kumar(President,Nava Kerala) chaired the session. Mr.M.Arun Kumar (Vice President, Nava Kerala ) welcomed the gathering.Dr.Naasimudeen (Physician) gave felicitation. Mr. R.
