Diabscreen Kerala is a major diabetes awareness project of P.Kesavadev Trust. The Diabscreen Kerala team, headed by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, conducts diabetes awareness, prevention, and treatment programs at various geographical locations in collaboration with regional organizations.
An initiative by P.Kesavadev Trust.
Diabetic Kidney Disease considered as the most devastating complication of diabetes could be preventable. In a study from India presented at the 79th convention of American Diabetes Association, San Francisco, 400 subjects were followed up for a period of 15 years via a periodic virtual telemedicine based follow-up program(DTMSฎ) in addition to 2-3 physical visits/year. Researchers found that those subjects who were started on insulin very early in the course of diabetes and on regular telemedicine visits were, at the end of 15 years, able to significantly retard the progression of kidney disease and also demonstrate better control of diabetes with lesser doses of insulin compared to the control arm. This has resulted in overall reduction in the cost of treating diabetes. This study which is of significant socio-economic impact demonstrates DTMSฎ as an inexpensive and effective tool to prevent expensive and disabling disease. The research was conducted at Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, Trivandrum and the team included Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Dr.Arun Shankar, Dr.Ashwin David, Dr.Rohit Warrier, Geethu Sanal, Annie Ajai, Gopika Krishnan and Sunitha Jothydev. .
