Ten years back, I was diagnosed to have a cholesterol of 240 mg%. I was told that it is marginally elevated according to the standards at that time and was adviced strict diet and exercise.5 years later, another doctor found that my TSH was elevated and hence low thyroid hormone is responsible for high cholesterol.I am presently on both Eltroxin and atorvastatin.Is it safe for me to continue with these drugs?

It is absolutely safe to continue Eltroxin and Atorvastatin, provided the dose is optimal and all evaluations are complete so as to forsee any complications. Low thyroid hormone very commonly leads to elevated cholesterol levels which can produce heart attacks.Since you are quite fortunate to have this disease diagnosed early in life,you should be happily consuming medicines provided all investigations are periodically repeated,you will never develop any complications in the liver, muscle or kidney.Remember to see your doctor at least every 6 months.
