Type 1 diabetes get together at JDC on 26 April 2014 saw participation of more than 80 type 1 diabetes subjects and their caregivers expressing the various emotional and treatment issues related to type 1 diabetes management. The heart touching experiences shared by the type 1 kids led to a strong urge to form a forum which will aid individuals with type 1 diabetes to fight for their rights in the society. The discrimination at school, lack of care and facilities for administering injections while in school, challenges with marriages, the fear of hypoglycemia etc. were discussed by the participants. Dr.Jothydev Kesavadev, Sunitha Jothydev (Psychologist),Dr.Aswin David, Geethu Sanal etc. discussed with the individuals. A quiz program to generate awareness on the various aspects of type 1 diabetes was conducted. Ms.Indul Thampy, ex Miss Kerala and cine artist and fianc� Major Kishore distributed prizes for the winners. Identity cards were also distributed to kids to help them when met with an emergency. The get together was coordinated by Jayasree Lally and Prasad. The diabetes team also actively participated.
