The AGS guidelines are there to decide on the treatment of diabetes in elderly population. More emphasis is on aggressive control of lipids and blood pressure.If the remaining years of fruitful life expectancy is found to be longer than 10 years,it makes sense lowering the A1c levels to normal ones.In other words aggressive blood sugar control has long lasting benefits and the subject should be living longer or else symptomatic episodes of hypoglycemia can be fatal.
