Diabscreen Kerala is a major diabetes awareness project of P.Kesavadev Trust. The Diabscreen Kerala team, headed by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, conducts diabetes awareness, prevention, and treatment programs at various geographical locations in collaboration with regional organizations.
The World Diabetes Week at JDC 1 was marked by this year's IDF message 'Act on Diabetes.Now.' As part of
the Diabetes Week, The World Diabetes Day Camp at JDC 1 was inaugurated by Padmashree Prof.O.N.V.Kurup on
11 Nov 2011. The camp had more than 300 participants listening to the diabetes day messages by
Prof. O.N.V.Kurup, Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev & Dr. Arun Shankar followed by Dr. Kasia Lipska MD,
Endocrinologist, USA who also addressed the gathering. Diabetes diet talks were given by Ms.Geethu Sanal
and Ms.Sonia Praveen.Diabetes day messages were also given by social and political leaders present.
Free blood tests including HbA1c, blood glucose, lipid, liver and kidney function tests were performed for
all the camp participants. Food including lunch was provided to all participants free of cost. Post lunch
session included free consultation and diabetes education by the diabetes treatment team.
With a view to spread the World Diabetes Day messages, 'WDD on Wheels' campaign was inaugurated by
Mr.Maniyan Pillai Raju along with Mr. Maheswaran Nair (Poojappura Ward counsellor), Mr. Mudavnmugal
Satheesh etc.The campaign was aimed at spreading awareness about diabetes by moving throughout the city
and suburbs on 14 Nov 2011.
World Diabetes Day camp was conducted at Kesavadev Diabetes Basic Care Center (KDC), Kumarapuram on 14
Nov 2011 for over 100 patients in and around the city. Free blood tests including HbA1c, blood glucose,
lipids, liver and kidney function tests were done along with anthropometric measurements. The patients
were provided free lunch. Free consulation by Dr. Jothydev Kesavadev, Dr.Arun Shankar and Dr. Maya John
was followed by diabetes education by the diabetes team. Free medicines were provided to all the attendees.
Declaring integrity to the IDF call 'To go blue', JDC1 was lighted blue on the Wolrd Diabetes Week.The
response to the WDD programs at JDC 1 was overwhelming.The WDD events were coordinated by
Ms. Sunitha Jothydev, Mr.Aneesh Kumar and Gopika Krishnan.
