Session 7 of the DREAMS Practicals was held at St. Mary’s Girls High School, Payyanur, engaging 40 individuals
with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) along with their parents and teachers. The program commenced with personal
introductions, fostering a sense of community, and proceeded with interactive activities like Diabetes Bingo
and hands-on workshops on carbohydrate counting and insulin dosage calculation.
Practical demonstrations covered essential skills, including the proper use of glucose meters, insulin injection
techniques, and storage practices. A highlight of the day was the Balloon Game of Myths and Facts, which effectively
debunked common misconceptions about T1D through a fun and engaging approach. The session concluded with a vital
discussion on sick day management and an open Q&A, where participants had the opportunity to clarify doubts directly
with experts. All attendees received tokens of appreciation, while winners of the games were rewarded with practical
gifts like lancets, needles, glucose meters, and strips. This session emphasized education and empowerment,
equipping participants with the knowledge and tools necessary for better diabetes management while fostering a
supportive community.
